Generally speaking, managing your weight and aiming for a BMI in a healthy range can help reduce your risk of obesity-related disease and chronic conditions. It can also help increase health benefits such as improved blood sugar and cholesterol levels.
At HCF, we’ve got your back in good times and bad. That’s why we give members access to achievable programs that are supported by medical evidence. We’d never encourage extreme or unsustainable choices like crash dieting.
Here are some of our weight-management options below:
Dietitian-led, HCF-approved weight management programs
To help you reach a healthy weight, you may be able to claim for a dietitian-led, HCF-approved weight management program*.
Weight-loss medications
We may also cover some of the costs of certain weight-loss medications that are registered on the Australian Register of Therapeutic Goods. If they’re used to treat the specific conditions listed for those drugs. You could claim a maximum of $50 for one month’s supply of approved weight-loss medications in a year.
Healthy Weight for Life: Our programs
Improve your health and get back to doing more of the things you enjoy with one of our Healthy Weight for Life programs, brought to you by our partner, Prima Health Solutions and their Healthy Weight for Life team. Eligibility criteria applies.
If you’re not eligible for a fully-funded program we may be able to cover some of the costs of these programs under your extras cover, depending on benefit limits.
Exercise classes and gym memberships
If your doctor or physiotherapist has recommended an exercise or gym program to treat a specific medical condition like obesity you may be able to claim towards the cost.
To claim, ask your doctor (GP or specialist) to confirm your condition on an Exercise and Gym Benefits Form. A physiotherapist or exercise physiologist can complete the form if you’re claiming for their classes. Remember to submit a new form for each program.
Recreational or competitive sports or activities aren’t covered.
To find out more about these programs and whether or not you’re eligible call our friendly Customer Care team on 13 13 34 or email the HCF Health and Wellbeing team at wellbeing@hcf.com.au.
