Mental wellbeing is important for every child’s development. If you’re a parent or carer of a child facing emotional, behavioural and mental health challenges, you may be wondering what you can do to help them. The good news is, having the right tools can make a big difference to the wellbeing of the whole family.
Below are programs and resources to help give children and carers the tools to support and promote mental wellbeing.
Some of these are free for everyone, others we can provide to eligible HCF members at a reduced cost or no cost. If you have any queries, email our Health and Wellbeing team here or read through our FAQs below.

Parents looking for a free, easy-to-use app, may benefit from Woebot*. Woebot is an automated mental health chatbot.

Woebot also sends videos and other useful tools depending on your needs at that moment.
USE FREE COURSES FROM THIS WAY UP*
Another option for parents is to enrol in an online course by THIS WAY UP*, a not-for-profit initiative developed by psychiatrists and clinical psychologists, sponsored by the Australian Government and the Clinical Research Unit for Anxiety and Depression (CRUfAD) at St Vincent’s Hospital, Sydney.
From 1 July 2020, if you access the courses without a supervising clinician the cost is $59 for each course. Some resources and tools are still available at no cost.
However, if prescribed by a clinician the courses are free. Your provider will register with TWU and refer you to one of these courses under their supervision. They will provide you with a prescription code which when entered on registration, waives the cost of the course/s.
These courses are designed to help users identify, understand, and improve psychological difficulties like stress, insomnia, worry, anxiety and depression.
